Criteria for Inclusion
The Irish Georgian Society Catalogue of Irish Theses and Dissertations Relating to Architecture and the Allied Arts contains research work, which has been submitted as part of an academic qualification awarded on the island of Ireland. Therefore, unlike Planning Architecture Design Database Ireland (http://www.paddi.net/) the subject matter of the theses and dissertations is not confined to Irish material.
The catalogue does not include theses or dissertations currently under research.
The theses and dissertations included in the catalogue relate to architecture and the allied arts. On account of the Irish Georgian Society's conservation remit the catalogue also includes academic research in the field of architectural conservation but excludes planning.
The Society has endeavoured to be comprehensive in its listing. All theses that have been submitted as part of an academic qualification have been included irrespective of the grade achieved. No disclosure of those grades is made in this catalogue.
Interrogators of the inventory should note that the quality of the theses and dissertation included in the catalogue vary. Factors such as awarding institution and type of degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) should be taken into consideration.
It should be noted that a number of the M.A. theses have been submitted in partial fulfilment of a degree and other course work has been taken into consideration when awarding the academic qualification. The catalogue has demarcated between these master degrees awarded on the basis of both examination and research and those that have been awarded only on the basis of research by including ‘research' in parenthesis after the latter degrees.
