Robert Healy Coasters

Robert Healy Coasters
Name: Robert Healy Coasters

Description:

Roberty Healy's Views of Country Life at Castletown.

A series of outdoor views, drawn at Castletown, Co. Kildare in 1768, include six horse pictures and two of Lady Louisa Conolly and her friends which Gaelóra has had made into table mats. His preference for outdoor views proved fatal to Robert Healy who died at the early age of 28 "from the effects of a cold brought on while sketching cattle in Lord Mornington's park". Healy invariably worked in black and white chalk which has given rise to the theory that he may have been colour blind. In spite of this, his landscapes are skillfully handled. Threatening skies, relieved by patches of sunlight, trees alive with glistening raindrops after a storm - these are familiar sights in the Irish countryside and Healy captures them to perfection.

Set of six cork-backed coasters.
