ABOUT THE AWARDS
The Irish Georgian Society's Architectural Conservation and Original Drawing Awards are presented biannually.
The Awards are open to Irish architects and architectural practices, building surveyors, contractors, engineers and other professionals involved in the conservation of historic buildings on the island of Ireland.
Applications are assessed by an independent judging panel comprising Livia Hurley (Chair), Karen Latimer, Simon Lincoln, Frank McDonald and Kevin Mulligan. Awards are in the form of a Parchment which is presented to the Client and the Professional Team at a ceremony in the City Assembly House at which there is also an exhibition of shortlisted projects.
Applications concerning historic buildings of all types, including vernacular, are welcome. Previously shortlisted projects have included churches, civic structures, courtyards and houses both urban and rural.
There are two award categories: one for a conservation project and one for an original drawing (non-CAD) relating to an historic building or structure.
Category 1
Award for a Conservation Project by architects in Ireland or Irish architectural firms, building surveyors and other professionals involved in the conservation of historic buildings in Ireland. The term ‘Conservation’ is interpreted as per the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland definition to include works of preservation, restoration, adaptation and maintenance of buildings and sites.
Category 2
Award for an original architectural (non CAD) drawing relating to an historic building / structure, in Ireland.

Kevin V Mulligan - Architectural historian and author of numerous books and articles on Irish architecture including Rich Specimens of Architectural Beauty (2020); Vain Transitory Splendours: The Irish Country House and the Art of John Nankivell (2018); Buildings of South Ulster (2013); and Ballyfin (2011).
Andrew Tierney - Research Fellow on STONE-WORK, an ERC-funded project at Trinity College Dublin where he formerly worked on the IRC projects CRAFTVALUE (2019-2023) and MAKING VICTORIAN DUBLIN (2017-18). His volume Central Leinster was published by Yale University Press in 2019. He is co-editor of Between Design and Making: architecture and craftsmanship 1630-1760 (UCL Press, 2024).
