YIG tour of the Castletown House Archive and historic Celbridge, Co. Kildare

The first Young Irish Georgians event of the autumn programme will be a visit the Castletown Archive at Castletown House, followed by lunch at a Kilddrought House in Celbridge and a tour of Tea Lane Graveyard, a conservation project supported by the Irish Georgian Society in 2017. Our tour of the Castletown Archive will be lead by Nicola Kelly, archivist at OPW-Maynooth University Archive & Research Centre at Castletown. Launched by President Mary McAleese on Thursday, 13 November 2008, the OPW-Maynooth University Archive and Research Centre at Castletown was established to facilitate the care and study of archives and other sources dealing with the history of Irish estates, their houses and inhabitants. It also facilitates research in the decorative arts.  

Afterward our tour the group will have a light lunch at Kildrought House in Celbridge, followed by a short tour of the Tea Lane Graveyard and an introduction to the conservation project. You can then chose to continue on an audio tour of historic Celbridge (http://bit.ly/2MRLKGI), or return to Dublin on public transport. We will be travelling to and from Celbridge by public transport, you can either get the 120 Bus Eireann bus (30mins) or the 67 Dublin Bus (45mins). Our tour commences at 10.30am sharp, so please arrive in good time to meet in the main hall of Castletown House.

This event is open to student members and Young Irish Georgian (under 40) members of the Irish Georgian Society.
