Tuesday 12th February – ‘Butlers of Ormond’ with John Kirwan
John Kirwan is an historian, archivist, curator and writer. He has primary and subsequent degrees and professional qualifications from UCD. He has had many articles published on Kilkenny history, places and families in many local and national journals. Previous books include a collaborative work with Niall Brannigan Kilkenny Families in the Great War which identified near 3,000 individuals who were involved in that conflict. An overview of the Chief Butlers of Ireland and the House of Ormond' or A Look
at the key figures of the House of Ormond with particular attention to the late 18th century when Kilkenny city, largely a Tudor creation, took on a Georgian veneer.
