NANO NAGLE PLACE, DOUGLAS STREET, CORK & Christmas Party at HAYFIELD MANOR

10.15am Meet at Nano Nagle Place, Douglas Street, Cork for registration etc.
10.30am Guided tour of the historic buildings at Nano Nagle Place, followed by light refreshments.
12.00 noon Lecture by Kristina Decker on ‘Mrs. Delany’ at Nano Nagle Place.
2.00pm Lunch at Hayfield Manor, College Road, Cork.
Nano Nagle Place contains a complex of buildings, including a 1771 convent and 1865 chapel, together with many former school buildings. Declining numbers lead to the closure of the school and the site has now been transformed into a lively experience with a heritage centre, archive, shop and café. The Cork School of Architecture is housed in a contemporary building designed by JCA Architects who were responsible for the conversion and adaption of the existing educational buildings.
Kristina Decker (pictured on the right) is the recipient of the ‘Desmond Guinness Scholarship 2017’ for her study "Women and Improvement in Eighteenth-Century Ireland: The Case of Mary Delany". Mary Granville (1700-88), who later became Mrs. Pendarves and finally Mrs. Delany, engaged in extensive correspondence and had a reputation for lively observations on life and society in eighteenth century England and Ireland. She was also a talented artist.
Hayfield Manor is a luxury five star hotel where we will enjoy a fine lunch in festive surroundings and some token gifts will be distributed to members on a random basis.
Tickets cost €60 (members) €70 (non-members) including lunch and must be purchased in advance by completing the application form below.
