Lost Houses of County Cork with Julian Walton and Fergal Browne,10am, 21st March, Civic Trust House, Cork
Join the Cork Chapter for a morning of talks followed by lunch at Isaacs restaurant. These talks will look at the 'Lost Houses of County Cork' and will feature Ballintober House and Castle Cooke. In the first talk author and historian Julian Walton will look at Castle Cooke, a late seventeenth century or early eighteenth-century house, with later additions in the nineteenth and early twentieth century which was burned in 1921 and the ruins demolished. In the second talk local historian Fergal Browne will discuss Ballintober House located near Kinsale residence of the Meade family since 1650 and demolished in 1943.
Itinerary:
10.00 am Meet at Cork Civic Trust House, 50 Popes Quay, Cork (Eircode T23 R6XC) for registration
10.30am Julian Walton 'Cooke-Collis of Castle Cooke, County Cork: The Rise and Fall of a landed family'
11.45am Interval
12.00pm Fergal Browne 'The Meades of Ballintober House, a very important mid to late 17th Century house’
1.30pm Lunch at Isaac’s Restaurant, MacCurtain Street.
Tickets: €70 (members), €80 (non-members), including lunch and must be purchased in advance by completing the booking form here. Places are limited, all completed forms and payments must be received by Wednesday 18th March 2026.

Refunds Policy: Unfortunately, refunds can only be processed on the basis of 48 hours prior notice of cancellation to the event organiser. In the event of the outing involving bus transport or prepayments, then refunds will only be possible on the basis that the vacated space is filled. All refunds are at the sole discretion of the committee.
Parking: Parking is available nearby, including at car parks on St Patrick’s Quay (€2.50 per hour or €9 per day) and Carroll’s Quay (€4.00 per hour).
