The Cork Chapter event at Woodhouse will begin with refreshments served in the Garden Pavilion. Our visit will include a tour of the downstairs of the house, a visit to the museum and opportunities to explore the beautiful gardens, including the restored walled garden. Lunch will be served at the Garden Pavilion and the event will conclude in the late afternoon.

Woodhouse Estate has a fascinating history. The earliest part of the house dates back to the early 1600s when James Wallis, an English Elizabethan settler, built a fine stone house, mill and gardens. The house was damaged in the 1641 Rebellion and passed to the FitzGerald family and then to the Uniackes in the 1720s. The house was transformed into a substantial Georgian structure.

Woodhouse passed by inheritance to the Beresfords and remained in that family until 1971. The current owners, Jim and Sally Thompson, purchased the property in 2012 and have renovated the house, cottages, outbuildings and lands. Their initiative involved an enormous amount of effort and patience but ultimately was successful and Woodhouse is a beautiful, vibrant estate once more.
