Day tour with Pat Murray visiting Great Houses of Co. Laois

04.07.2026, 09:00 A.M.

Led by Pat Murray, this tour will bring members to Stradbally, Co. Laois, where we will first visit The Malthouse to which we will be welcomed by IGS member Glenn Bradshaw, who will generously provide tea and coffee.

Afterwards we will continue to neighbouring Stradbally Hall, home of Thomas and Gesa Cosby, which was built in 1790 to replace an earlier structure and was extensively renovated in an Italianate-style c. 1868 by Lanyon, Lynn & Lanyon of Belfast.

The next destination will by Emo Court, which was designed for the Earls of Portarlington by James Gandon and constructed over an extended period running from 1790. It was later owned by the Jesuits and then Major Cholmeley-Harrison, who donated it to the State in the 1990s.

9am coach departure from Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge.
