A tour based in Bordeaux, the most beautiful 18th century city in France, with excursions to the different wine regions in the Gironde region, to include the Médoc, the Graves and Entre-Deux-Mers. A total of 14 châteaux still operating in Bordeaux boast distinctly Irish names. There will be special visits to the perfectly preserved 18th century Château Langoa (Barton), Château Siran (de Burgh), Château La Ligne and Château Kirwan, all with Irish connections, as well as some of the famous houses like Château Margaux and some other smaller châteaux.
ITINERARY (subject to amendment)
Saturday 17 October
10.30 Departure of Aer Lingus flight to Bordeaux
1.30 Arrive Bordeaux airport and transfer by private coach to the Hotel de Normandie
3.30 Leave (on foot) for a tour of the city to include the Cathedral (Marcadé collection) and the Palais de Rohan, now the Hôtel de Ville
7.45 Leave for dinner on a boat along the Gironde
Sunday 18 October
a.m. Leave (by coach) to visit to visit the Cité du Vin
Continue to the Médoc region for lunch in Paulliac, passing the Lynch-Bages and Dillon estates
p.m. Private visit to Château McCarthy in St Estephe (by special arrangement with Henri Duboscq)
Return to Bordeaux
Dinner independently
Monday 19 October
9.00 Leave (by coach) to drive south into the Graves region
Visit to Château de Cazeneuve in Prechac, the former residence of the Kings of Navarre
11.30 Continue to Château de Malle for a visit and picnic lunch
p.m. Continue for a visit and drinks privately at Château de Roquetaillarde in Mazares, continuously owned by the same family for 700 years (by kind arrangement with Sébastien de Baritault)
Return to Bordeaux
8.00 Dinner independently
Tuesday 20 October
9.00 Leave (by coach) to drive over to the Entre-Deux-Mers region
Visit to Château du Bouilh (by special arrangement)
Continue to visit the town of Saint Emilion – lunch independently
p.m. Visit to Château La Ligne (by kind arrangement with Dr Terence Cross)
Return to Bordeaux
19.00 Guided visit at the Musée de Chartrons, former home of Francis Burke and now the Wine & Trade Museum, followed by a light supper on site (by special arrangement)
Wednesday 21 October
9.00 Leave (by coach) for a private visit to Château Margaux in the Médoc (pending
final confirmation)
11.30 Visit to the winery and picnic lunch at Château Kirwan
p.m. Private visit to Château Langoa-Barton (pending final confirmation)
6.00 Visit, followed by dinner at Château Siran in Labarde (by kind arrangement with the Mialhe de Burgh family)
Return to Bordeaux
Thursday 22 October
a.m. Optional walk to visit the famous Les Capucins market
11.00 Leave for the airport
1.35 Departure of Aer Lingus flight to Dublin
2.40 Arrive Dublin airport

- Cost per person sharing €2285. Single supplement €200.
- Cost includes 5 nights bed and breakfast in 4* hotel as per programme; local guides as necessary; coach transfers; entries to museums, gardens and houses; wine tastings; 4 dinners and 3 lunches and contribution to the IGS.

- Booking is only available through Travel Escapes and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
- The trip will go ahead if a minimum number of bookings is reached.

- All travelling must be members of the Irish Georgian Society.
- Balance payment will be made directly to the Irish Georgian Society and balance due date will be advised at a later date.
