A five day four night visit to East Anglia to include some of the finest houses – and collections – and gardens in the British Isles, including Audley End House, Houghton Hall, seat of the Marquess of Cholmondeley, Holkham Hall (William Kent’s masterpiece), seat of the Earl of Leicester, and Ickworth House, with its close Irish connections having been built by Frederick Hervey, Earl of Bristol and Bishop of Derry (the Earl Bishop). The tour will also include the historic towns of Bury St Edmunds, King’s Lynn, Ely and Newmarket. Highlights in the towns include the medieval centre of King’s Lynn with the only theatre left which hosted William Shakespeare, Ely with its great cathedral and unusual Lady Chapel, and equine centric Newmarket, home of the National Horseracing Museum.

ITINERARY (subject to amendment):

Day One: Monday 7 September

Collection from Stansted Airport, luncheon and visit to Audley End House and gardens, Saffron Walden, welcome dinner, accommodation at the four star The Angel Hotel, Bury St Edmunds

Day Two: Tuesday 8 September

Tour of the historic centre of Bury St Edmunds including Bury St Edmunds Abbey, luncheon, visit and tour of Ickworth House and estate, dinner on own

Day Three: Wednesday 9 September

Private tour of Houghton House and gardens, luncheon, private tour of Holkham Hall and gardens, dinner, accommodation at four star Duke’s Head Hotel, King’s Lynn

Day Four: Thursday 10 September

Walking tour of King’s Lynn, luncheon, King’s Lynn Minster, St Nicholas’ Chapel, private visit to Clifton House, dinner

Day Five: Friday 11 September

Private tour of Ely Cathedral, luncheon, visit to National Horseracing Museum, Newmarket. Return to Stansted Airport

What is included in the price: Four nights’ Accommodation on B&B basis, all entrance and tour fees, five luncheons and three dinners (with wine), transportation from and to all venues

  • Cost per person sharing €1,820. Single supplement €310.
  • Cost includes Four nights’ Accommodation on B&B basis, all entrance and tour fees, five luncheons and three dinners (with wine), transportation from and to all venues, & IGS contribution of €250
  • Flights not included

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Booking is only available through Travel Escapes and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
  • The trip will go ahead if a minimum number of bookings is reached.
  • Suitable travel insurance must be in place from time of booking.
  • All travelling must be members of the Irish Georgian Society.
  • Balance payment will be made directly to the Irish Georgian Society and balance due date will be advised at a later date.
  • Once payments are made, we can only provide a refund if your place can be filled by another member. Otherwise, we suggest claiming from your travel insurance where applicable.
