‘Landed Estates of County Roscommon’ with Paul Connolly

28.01.2020, 18:30 P.M.

This lecture is fully booked.

This talk examines the Landed Estates of County Roscommon, looking at some of the larger estates in detail and talking about members of the families that resided there. This illustrated presentation is made up of photographs of these houses, some from private family collections. Roscommon contained some of the finest houses in the country, many of which are no longer standing, such as Rockingham, Mote and Frenchpark. There are however some fine houses still standing, and open to the public, examples being King House, Clonalis, Castlecoote and Strokestown Park. Paul Connolly is originally from Mount Talbot, County Roscommon, He has a keen interest in history, particularly in the history of his local area and county. Paul is a Civil Engineer by profession and has self published two local history books, the latest being ‘The Landed Estates of county Roscommon’. Paul has given a number of very well received talks over the years, including a presentation at the 2017 Percy French Festival in Castlecoote House and the 2019 Boyle Arts Festival at King House, both were sold out well in advance of the events.
