IGS London Visit to Lancaster House, 11am, Friday 27th March, Stable Yard, St James’s, London SW1A 1BB
We are very pleased to be able to offer an exclusive visit for IGS London members to Lancaster House, the lavishly decorated 19th-century mansion adjacent to Buckingham Palace. Situated on The Mall and formerly known as York House and then Stafford House, it was once a central hub for London's social and political elite. Built in 1825, this historic, Grade I listed building set the fashion for opulence and grand entertaining for nearly a century. Known for its lavish Louis XIV-style interiors that feature the grand hall with its sweeping staircase and dramatic skylight, the long gallery with painted ceiling among other splendid rooms, it created a stunning backdrop for a significant part of the impressive Sutherland collection of paintings and objets d'art which still survives today.
