IGS London: The British Museum’s Enlightenment Gallery Tour

29.10.2019, 11:30 A.M.

Tour of The British Museum’s Enlightenment Gallery led by Art Historian Rachel Owens

Transport back in time with a tour of The British Museum’s Enlightenment Gallery. The Tour will be led by Art Historian Rachel Owens, who is currently working at The British Museum. The Enlightenment Gallery is a reflection of its time, built between 1823 and 1827 to house the library of George III.

The Enlightenment period was a time of learning and discovery that developed across Europe and America from 1680 until 1820. The tour will look at themes of the museum’s collection from the natural world, archaeology, ancient scripts, religion and ritual, trade and discovery and art and civilisation.

This tour will be of interest to those interested in history and art who would like to learn more about the formation of The British Museum’s collection alongside those who are generally interested in collecting.
