Walking tour with Arran Henderson “Architecture and history, along the Grand Canal”: (Part-1)
We will walk along the fascinating Grand canal, starting from Longwood Avenue, in Dublin 8 (meeting at the Grand Canal-end) along the Grand Canal to Wilton Park/ Herbert Place, in Dublin 2.
Along the way we shall experience and explore versions of Dublin ranging from leafy, late- Georgian terraces via artisan housing, 1960s modernism, we will visit one of Dublin’s few, really successful mixed housing and retail developments, and view one of the vastest, sleekest, vision of the corporate 21st Century tech-giants.
Along our way we will touch on everything from revolution to literary and social history, and of course, lots of very fine architecture.
We will finish our walk between Wilton Park and Herbert Place in Dublin 2, just around the corner from Baggot street and part of the former, rich literary landscape once frequented by Kavanagh and Behan, and still sometimes known as Baggotonia.
